I

At Filmoteca UNAM we are ready to welcome our visitors at the Congress of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF) this 2023.

We will start on Sunday, April 16, with guided tours, registration, and a welcome cocktail at the National Museum of Anthropology, recognized as one of the most important museums in the world for its impressive collection of pre-Hispanic pieces.

Principal Venue:

Casa del Lago UNAM

From Monday, April 17 to Friday, April 21, we will have the Casa del Lago UNAM as our main venue, located in the Bosque de Chapultepec, one of the largest, most beautiful and most popular parks in the world, divided into three sections in which museums, restaurants, green areas, a zoo, an artificial lake where you can go boating and whose view beautifies the landscape converge, as well as cultural and entertainment venues. A few steps from our main headquarters is the Museum of Modern Art, dedicated to spreading and preserving the works of Mexican creators; the Tamayo Museum, the most valuable contemporary art venue in Mexico; and the Chapultepec Castle, unique in America and which houses the National Museum of History.

Also, during their stay in Mexico City, visitors will find the Paseo de la Reforma as the main access route, an emblematic avenue that connects the Bosque de Chapultepec with the Historic Center and where one can admire the Monument to Independence, a great symbol of the Mexican capital.

In the framework of the annual congress there will be a cycle with special screenings of restored films for the attendees. The projections will take place in the afternoon, from Monday to Thursday in the Sala Lumière of the Casa del Lago UNAM.

Guided Tours

Filmoteca UNAM and Central Campus of Ciudad Universitaria

Filmoteca UNAM is proud of the conservation of its archive and the development of its own activities to preserve film materials. That is why we have scheduled for Friday, April 21, a series of guided tours to the Central Campus of Ciudad Universitaria, declared an Artistic Monument in 2005 and UNESCO World Heritage in 2007 for its functionalist architecture, the application of the Mexican plastic movement, its murals, as well as urban and landscape design models. There will also be a tour of the facilities of the Filmoteca UNAM to see its Restoration Workshop, the Film Laboratory, the Vaults of cinematographic materials, the Digital Laboratory and the Documentation Center.

Cineteca Nacional

We will make one last stop at the Cineteca Nacional, an institution that, like us, is responsible for preserving the film memory of the country and the world, where we can conclude the FIAF 2023 congress with a closing cocktail.

Special Screening

At the National Museum of Anthropology, and as a final extra activity of our entire event, there will be a screening of the film Retorno a Aztlán (In Necuepaliztli in Aztlan) (1990), by Juan Mora Catlett, on Saturday, April 22, at 11:00 hours.
