In a heteropatriarchal environment, what challenges and opportunities does rethinking the archive from a queer perspective represent? This conversation will focus on the paradigm shift that questions the hegemonic practices of collection, conservation and programming, based on the work of the LGBTQ+ filmmaker, curator, activist archivist and film historian Jenni Olson, as well as recent findings from the Thai Film Archive.

May Hong HaDuong joined the UCLA Film & Television Archive as its fourth director in 2021. Previously, she oversaw access to the collection of the Academy Film Archive for 13 years. Prior to serving at the Academy Film Archive, she was the project manager for the Outfest UCLA Legacy Project for LGBT Moving Image Preservation, a collaboration between the UCLA Film & Television Archive and Outfest, which produces the Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival. HaDuong currently serves on the National Film Preservation Board, the American Council of Learned Societies’ Commission on Fostering and Sustaining Diverse Digital Scholarship, the Legacy Project Advisory Committee, and on the Board of Directors of the ONE Archives
Foundation. HaDuong is a UCLA alumna of the Moving Image Archive Studies program.
Todd Wiener, Motion Picture Curator, has worked at the UCLA Film & Television Archive for more than twenty-three years. In addition to supporting all motion picture-related academic, programmatic, and preservation programs at the Archive, Todd serves as one of the Film & Television Archive’s liaisons with major donors, depositors, and important archival preservation partners such as The Film Foundation, Film Noir Foundation, National Film Preservation Foundation, Outfest, and the Sundance Institute to name a few. He serves as an Advisory Board
Member for the Outfest UCLA Legacy Project, Film Noir Foundation, and the San Francisco
Silent Film Festival.
Haden Guest is Director of the Harvard Film Archive where he curates the HFA cinematheque and its motion picture, manuscript and photographic collections.He has curated film programs for the Viennale, Mar de Plata and Oberhausen Film Festivals, as well as the Gulbenkian Foundation and Museum in Lisbon where he organized the twelve part series Cinema Dialogues: Harvard at the Gulbenkian (2013-15). Guest also oversees the Harvard Film Archive’s preservation program whose projects include the previously lost Robert Flaherty film A NIGHT OF STORYTELLING, as well as, more recently, two films by Med Hondo, WEST INDIES and SARRAOUNIA and Dick Fontaine’s I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE, premiering at the 2023 Berlinale. As Senior Lecturer in Harvard’s Department of Art, Film, and Visual Studies, Guest teaches courses on film history and archival practice. He proudly holds a Phd in Film Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Sanchai Chotirosseranee holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Journalism and Mass
Communication, Thammasat University, Thailand, and a Master of Arts in Film Studies from the
University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom. He is currently the Deputy Director of the Thai
Film Archive (Public Organization), Thailand. He is one of the programmers of the Thai Short
Film and Video Festival and Silent Film Festival in Thailand.
