Synopsis

Return to Aztlán is the first fiction feature film that deals entirely with the immemorial legends of the Aztecs of pre-Columbian Mexico, which assail our imagination through the ruins of gigantic pyramids and magnificent works of art. Spoken in Nahuatl, the ancient classical language of the Mexicans, the story takes place in the 15th century, before the Spanish conquest, and narrates the adventures of a magical journey to Aztlán, the mythical place of origin of the Aztecs carried out by the emissaries of their Lord, Motecuzoma, and by a humble farmer named Ollin, in order to end a terrible four-year drought. This in a world where myth and magic are confused with reality and extreme violence coexists with the highest sophistication. The film was shot in archaeological zones and the music is made with original pre-Columbian instruments. The script was developed with a grant from the John S. Guggenheim Foundation and is based on five years of research advised by archaeologists.
